Doily blankets

I've been noticing a trend lately, or maybe it's just something I've been oblivious to up till now, but I seem to be noticing more and more blankets crocheted in yarn that resemble an over-sized doily.  When looking through online shops on Etsy I see doilies grown to monstrous proportions, large enough to comfortably envelop a small child or to dwarf a normal sized couch as it artfully drapes over the couch back.  These anomalies of nature sometimes go by the name of circle blanket or doily blanket, they sometimes masquerade as tablecloths.  Whatever they are, they are tricky, unexpected, and thoroughly delightful.

 

I do believe I'm going to have to try my hand at this new take on an old craft!
